  • Tiles r in…

Tiling was done on Friday, was hoping they would get the floor in but not to be, so going be a couple more days work. Think they look ok with the kettle and toaster but then again I have no taste.

  • End of day 6 and taking shape

Units and new sink now in place, piping all been boxed in. Just needs extractor fan fitting, floor doing, painting and tiles. Should be last day on Monday. Even got a cupboard with a lock for some reason.

  • End of work day 3

Thank you for putting back a temporary sink

Apart from that they have done some more electrical work, added new sockets and light fittings. Gone is the strip light and there is a hole where the extractor fan used to be.

  • Where tf has my sink gone…

Day 2 and get home to find they have removed the sink unit and radiator…. which is fine but they were supposed to fit a temporary sink for washing up etc.. Gives me a reason to complain on Monday.

Cooker still wired in and working but as there is no work area and a lot of dust i can only do basics anyway.

Other than not much has changed at first glance but there is some new gas piping and electric wiring.

  • Day 1

Looks like schedule is messed up already, new boiler has been fitted and was not due until day 2

Existing vinyl flooring also been taken out which wasn’t due until day 5.

Backpack packed and ready to go

Just have to wait for the bus to airport now, back to heat wave UK tomorrow.

Final mango and sticky rice at the airport. Love this stuff. Was starving so forgot to take pic before tucking in.

  • Goodbye Vietnam

Some shots of last few days around Hoi An, heading back to Thailand for last couple of days before flying home.

The trusty steed, would probably have been better to hire a scooter for a couple of days but the push bike got me around ok.

Sugar cane drink ideal for giving an energy boost and is really refreshing.

They use a manual or electric press to get the juice from raw cane, then pour over ice. Adding a splash of Kumquat juice and a bit of salt balances the sweetness. It’s actually not that bad for you either, as it is full of fibre, antioxidants and electrolytes to fight off dehydration. Apparently good for hangovers as well.

Can’t miss the stalls as they are fairly bright. There is a little old lady behind here pressing the cane. You can get it to go or can sit on the little red stools and have in a glass, they are really low so ideal for small people. Not so good for overweight middle age brits. I get it to go.

    Funky top.

Don’t know what is down there but all the tour groups go there, bit crowded for me. There is also a durian seller there and a couple of them are open, it ain’t going smell good.

    Know how you feel mate.

  • How is the heat wave in the uk ?

Had chicken with chilli and lemongrass for breakfast from the buffet, really good. The chilli wakes up the tastebuds quickly.

Forecast for 35 degrees, only one answer to that – beach day.

Nearest beach is about 2 miles from the hotel, so borrowed one of their bikes and off we go to An Bang beach. The beach is actually 30 km long but is known by different names at different areas. As you approach the beach on a bike or motorbike people jump out in front to try and get you to park with them, they all charge 10000 dong just under 30p.

About another 10km of beach that way.

The tall buildings in the background is where Danang city is. Between here and there are a lot of genuine 4 and 5 star resort hotels. All the big names, many claiming private beaches but it is all one beach. They are pricey but probably good value compared to other countries.

The beachside restaurants let you use the beds for free if you buy food, as I am always buying food it is not a great hardship. Plonked myself down at La Plage restaurant.

Had a Pappaya salad and scallops in butter for lunch. The scallops were tiny and overpowered by the peanuts, spring onions and herbs, but they were ok. Thailand has a famous pappaya salad called Som Tam, which is like fast food there as you can get it from a stall on virtually every street. They usually have it very fiery with lots of chilli. It’s very refreshing dish even loaded with chilli. This one was only a little bit spicy but was good.

All in with a couple of beers, water and a couple of soft drinks when I was on the lounger about £7.

    Tonights dinner walking by…… joking.
